On 13th May 2021, two men were detained by the Home Office for alleged immigration violations. In response, people from various backgrounds and communities spontaneously came together to surround the Home Office van for an astounding 8 hours, to prevent the van leaving and taking away the men. This act of solidarity and mutual aid captured the attention the media, highlighting the growing concerns regarding immigration policies and detention practices. The act of mutual aid for neighbours served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community mobilization in advocating for the rights and humane treatment of individuals caught up in immigration enforcement. Ultimately, due to the sustained pressure from the crowd and the widespread attention the incident garnered, the Home Office chose to release the detained men.
